If you have been keeping your eye on the fashion trends recently, you cannot deny that anything and everything 90’s has been revived. In fact, its almost as if we have entered Cher Horowitz’s “like totally” fashionable world of Bronson Alcott Highschool! With Clueless nearing its 23rd anniversary the return of the films fashion trends are definitely long overdue. Aspects of besties Cher, Dionne and Tai’s fashion have been seen everywhere, ranging from the forefront of runways, store racks and street style.
Costume Designer Mona May, created a wardrobe that every fashion lover strives toward! The costumes were very unique in that they strayed away from 90’s grunge fashion and more towards a preppy style. With this modern twist many of these outfits are still wearable today – making these styles eternal! Thanks to May, Cher Horowitz will always be known as one of the best dressed “betties” of the 90s. Among the iconic outfits, Cher’s stunning dress similar to this red sparkly prom dress stands out as a dazzling testament to May’s ability to capture both the essence of the ’90s and timeless elegance.

An Abundance of Plaid
Perhaps, the most notable outfit from the film is Cher’s yellow plaid ensemble! I know when I think of “Clueless” fashion this is definitely the first outfit that comes to mind. Recently, yellow plaid has been popping up everywhere especially at Fashion Week’s all over the world. This style was a main feature at Versace’s Milan Fall 2018 show – we were all “like totally buggin’” when Donatella decided to bring back this Beverly Hills preppy style!

Spice It Up and Go Sheer
Both Cher and Tai rock a variety of sheer aspects within their outfits, a trend that is still popular today. Despite this not being the most practical to battle the cold, these two high school betties often wear a sheer layer as outerwear. Not only is this trend still prominent today but recently we have also been loving everything mesh – a perfect way to emulate Cher with our own 2018 twist.

Boring Headwear? As If!
Dionne, the sassier of the best friends is renowned for her crazy hats, where we must give her “snaps for her courageous fashion efforts!” Although, the headwear Dionne rocks is not something we would see today, the fashion world has become braver with the type of hats hitting the shelves. Today, many models such as Bella Hadid are seen wearing berets and newsboy hats – which is very different to the classic baseball cap we have seen over the recent years.

Slip Into Something Simple
Throughout the film Cher is seen in a variety of basic slip dresses, a trend from Clueless that we are still obsessed with. Despite, Cher’s father not being as in love as we are with her Calvin Klein dress it is definitely a perfect outfit choice to avoid being referred to as a, “fashion victim” or, “ensemble-y challenged.”
