Alexis Mabille Spring 2011 Haute Couture

The young couturier, Alexis Mabille, opened Couture Fashion Week in Paris today with his Spring 2011 haute couture collection.

Mabille, staying true to himself – not believing couture and ready-to-wear shows should be separated – sent models down the runway in a rather eclectic mix of pieces. Here we have coquettish cigarette pants, in white or floral print, matched with a white or black cinched-waist jacket, just-above-the-knee full-skirt strapless dresses and old world glamour gowns channeling a Grecian goddess. Especially brave were the multifunctional last few looks. Starting out as an new-look type gown, the oversize full skirt – easily untied by the model – was turned into a cape, revealing a cute 60’s over-the-knee dress.

Today, John Galliano for Christian Dior, Alexandre Vauthier and Giorgio Armani for Armani Privé, will also send their Spring 2011 Haute Couture collections down the runway. Tomorrow the highlights will be Chanel and Givenchy. And on Wednesday it will be Elie Saab and Maxime Simoens, with Valentino closing Haute Couture Fashion Week.
