Christian Dior Spring 2011 Haute Couture

John Galliano has sent a much more tamed Christian Dior Spring 2011 Haute Couture collection down the runway than say, even in the previous season. Although still colourful, fiery bright color pallet was set aside, giving room to pastels and rich chocolates with an obligatory splash of fuschia here and there. Even the silhouettes, while still dramatic, were more, dare I say, minimal. Cinched at the waist for a classic hour-glass shape. But these aren’t demure 40’s housewives we’re talking about. With fiery bright lips and dramatic black eyeliner, the looks were more reminiscent of 40’s movie heroines projecting an almost aggressive allure rather than debutantes.

Tight pencil skirts, oversize New Look full skirts and long trails. All cinched tightly at the waist, balanced by an equally prominent bustier. Big bows and ostrich feathers added a boudoir feel to the spirit of the collection. Maybe tame, but the Christian Dior Spring 2011 Haute Couture collection was anything by ordinary. My standing ovation goes to the strapless oversize trapeze gown.
