For us fashion lovers the occasion of the year has finally arrived… the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Annual Costume Benefit, better known as the Met Gala! This event is one only of glitz and glam where anyone who is anyone attends! With the constant instagrams and ample red carpet coverage, I mean it is almost as if we were there too! Since everyone’s eyes are on the Ball it is the ultimate opportunity for celebrities to push fashion to its limit.

With the 2018 theme being, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” designers and attendees were up to a divine challenge. However, it was tackled with an immense amount of creativity where inspiration was taken from an impressive variety of facets within Catholicism, ranging from the clergy to the architecture of churches. So, since many Hollywood A-listers were clad in their “Sunday’s best” lets discuss four of the most show-stopping dresses.

One of the women that stole the show this year was Ariana Grande with her Met Ball debut. The “No Tears Left to Cry” singer brought a little bit of the Vatican to New York, encapsulating the 2018 theme perfectly! Ari rocked a Vera Wang Gown featuring Michelangelo’s “The Last Judgement” fresco, which is situated within the Sistine Chapel. Of course, she topped it off with her iconic pony tail to complete the look.

We cannot forget Zendaya! The 21 year old actress’ fashion game is always on point however this year she went above and beyond. Her Versace gown was inspired by Joan of Arc, one of the most famed Saints within Catholicism. With her dress emulating armour it is no wonder why she killed the red carpet!

Priyanka Chopra definitely deserves an honourable mention! The Quantico Actress looked absolutely stunning in her Ralph Lauren Gown. With the dress being somewhat simple she had a lot of room for creativity with accessories. The beautifully embellished chain mail, inspired by a medieval knight was a subtle yet effective nod to the theme. Her outfit this year was a definite upgrade from last years trench coat look!

Finally, we cannot talk “The Met” without mentioning the queen of the Red Carpet herself, Rihanna. Her looks are always renowned for how fiercely they adhere to the theme, where this year was no exception. Badgalriri pulled all the stops wearing a Mason Margiela crystal incrusted dress inspired by Papal insignia. I mean this look is perfect since Rihanna is definitely the leader of the Met ball.
