So here’s the deal: oversized puffer jackets are back and we’re honestly not sure how we feel about it. The trend gives us 90s rapper nostalgia, even though we know that the puffer jacket never really went *out* of style. For some reason, the fashion gods have decided that 2018 is the perfect time to break these beauts back out, and just in time for winter! We’re conflicted because this is a recycled trend that is both fashionable and functional, but is it really the right time for it to resurface? It’s definitely the right season and we already know how retailers feel, but we’re not totally convinced.
One of the reasons for our skepticism is because retailers keep styling these jackets like they don’t have a precise function. While you could definitely wear a tube top with one of these puffers, it just seems kind of counterproductive to the whole keeping-you-warm thing. Just a thought.
Example 2: shorts and the puffer. So your torso will be totally toasty, but your legs will be freezing? Doesn’t check out.
Example 3: this jacket looks really warm. But the mesh underneath honestly makes us shiver. Stylists, why??????
Look, we get that the oversized puffer is a staple. It’s cute, sure.
But what we just cannot condone is the styling of these jackets. Yes, the models look cute, but they also look cold.
Even if the puffer is part of the 2018 fall fashion canon like animal print, we just have a hard time buying into the hype.
Oversized puffer jackets seem to be getting exploited as a fashion trend rather than a necessity to combat the chilly weather. Then again, maybe retailers have just not been hitting the mark with their styling choices lately. Regardless, we know that puffer jackets probably aren’t going anywhere any time soon due to their ~functionality~. Tell us what you think about oversized puffer jackets @fashionlovermag!
