Minimalism And Fashion: Reduction In The Postmodern Era

The one clear thing we saw at New York Fashion Week Spring 2011 is the triumph of minimalism. The runways and presentation spaces were awash with neutrals and simplicity. So really, Minimalism and Fashion couldn’t have come at a better time.

Minimalism and Fashion, a new coffee-table book by the award-winning fashion historian Elyssa Dimant explores minimalism in decades past and it’s relationship with fine art. Organized in chronological order, Minimalism and Fashion takes us on a journey – from Madeleine Vionnet to Helmut Lang in over 150 photos.

The book features works by the likes of Madeleine Vionnet, André Courrèges, Halston, Karl Lagerfeld, Rei Kawakubo, Miuccia Prada, Yohji Yamamoto, Helmut Lang and Francisco Costa (Calvin Klein). Incidentally, Francisco Costa, creative director of Calvin Klein, also wrote the foreword.
