This year’s 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund prize winner is menswear Billy Reid. Surprisingly, womenswear designer Prabal Gurung came second, sharing the runner-up spot with jeweler Eddie Borgo. After seeing Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2011 collection I was sure he was going to win!
Billy Reid is a menswear designer, but also does womenswear as menswear. In his collections you’ll find a lot of plaid, denim and rustic Mississippi charm. His style is sometimes described as “Southern-bred luxury” and indeed it is.
Reid will get $300,000 in 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund prize money and his runner-ups, Prabal Gurung and Eddie Borgo, a $100,000 each.
Surely enough the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards event was name-dropper’s heaven. Anna Wintour and Carey Mulligan wore Chanel Fall 2010 Haute Couture – an ode to Carey Mulligan’s Vogue October 2010 cover I’m sure. Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen wore black and Giambattista Valli was just plain awesome.
