It is not long ago that Forever 21 opened a giant new flagship at Times Square. You would think it was their thing – going after the tourists and the masses. But apparently they have a more complex, much more evil plan in mind.
Today Forever 21 opens a new store at 693 Fifth Avenue, thus becoming the immediate neighbor of Bottega Veneta, Giorgio Armani, Emilio Pucci, Omega and the list goes on. So while shopping for a $3,000 bag, you can pop in for a $19 dress. Forever 21 does state that items available in the new store are of higher quality than usual – without upping the price range.
London’s upmarket neighborhoods aren’t safe either. Forever 21 just signed a lease for 360 Oxford Street – not far from Selfridges and Topshop.
But perhaps Fifth Avenue still has hope. Forever 21 has a mere 6-month lease on 693 Fifth Avenue. And the owner has 9 more contenders for a more permanent lease.
