Tom Ford Spring 2011 Dress, Wide Leg Pants, Suit
Tom Ford Spring 2011 collection preview in Vogue December 2011 editorial

It just might be that the internet is so bored on Thanksgiving (seriously, is anyone here?) that it started a rumor. The information seems to come from The French Tribune. They claim that Tom Ford For H&M limited-edition collection is coming up and will consist of pieces shown in French Vogue December 2010 that Ford himself edited.

Tom Ford For H&M would be against everything Tom Ford stands for. Ever since staging his Spring 2011 comeback collection to a selected audience while tightly controlling it’s exposure to media and celebrities, Ford told anyone who would listen that he’s all about exclusivity. Ford went as far as denouncing fast fashion and explained that he keeps his collection hidden until time comes so that fast fashion brands wouldn’t copy it. So that when you buy his collection when spring comes – it would be truly exclusive, new and exciting.

“The way the system works now, you see the clothes, within an hour or so they’re online, the world sees them,” Tom Ford tells WWD, “they don’t get to a store for six months. The next week, young celebrity girls are wearing them on red carpets. They’re in every magazine. The customer is bored with those clothes by the time they get to the store. They’re overexposed, you’re tired of them, they’ve lost their freshness, you see somebody wearing it and you say, “Oh, that’s that jacket that was in blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.” Or [a] customer doesn’t want to wear that jacket that was in blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. In addition, all of the fast-fashion companies that do a great job, by the way, knock everything off. So it’s everywhere all over the streets in three months and by the time you get it to the store, what’s the point?

So really, I think we can put this rumor to rest. In few days time, both H&M and Tom Ford will probably deny it. That is if they will give it the time of day at all.
